About

The aim
of the project

Digital Inter/Section (DI/S) is a consortium transforming the digital arts sector through sustainable and inclusive business models rooted in European values.

We are strengthening the resilience of digital arts organizations and creators by:

  • Diversifying revenue streams to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Boosting the production and circulation of digital and new media art.
  • Guiding cultural organizations in adopting innovative business models.

Through four pilot projects and the publication of studies, toolkits, and practical guides, DI/S empowers organizations across Europe to adapt and thrive in their local contexts. Together, we are shaping a resilient and forward-thinking digital arts community.

Digital Inter/Section also enables the whole sector to experiment in their own local contexts by publishing European-wide macro and micro studies, reports, toolkits and how to’s.

By developing and disseminating methodologies and preconisations amongst the pan-Europan community of digitals arts structures and CCS, DI/S acts as an inspiring and useful key tool for these organisations’ business model diversification.

Innovation of
the sector and
its competitiveness

Across Europe, cultural organizations and private companies are eager to collaborate, yet many cultural organizations lack the resources to fully explore and build these partnerships. There is a pressing need for a collaborative framework where public and private sectors can combine their strengths, driving joint economic growth.

This need inspired the consortium behind Digital Inter/Section (DI/S) to take action. We are actively experimenting with alliances between digital arts organizations and private businesses in partner countries including Germany, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, France, and the Czech Republic.

Through these experiments, DI/S is developing innovative business models that:

  1. Boost the competitiveness and economic resilience of digital arts organizations.
  2. Enhance opportunities for employees, artists, and creators.
  3. Foster stronger connections between the cultural and private sectors.

By leading the way, DI/S inspires the broader cultural and creative sector (CCS) to embrace bold, sustainable collaborations and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Carrying out four
local projects

Each of the four artistic partners (CHRONIQUES, KONTEJNER, SIGNAL, KIKK) conducted a pilot project in their local area, working together with key stakeholders towards the diversification of their revenue streams.

These experiences were shared among the consortium in order to inspire each other and generate collective convergence. The whole process has been documented in the forms of case studies and methodologies, which are shared with the entire sector.

Promoting
environmentally
sustainable alliances
and digital sobriety

Environmental and social considerations are indispensable for the development of sustainable business models, becoming a key factor in ensuring the longevity and stability of the ecosystem. The sustainability efforts of organisations are increasingly being considered by their partners, clients and the general public, making the lack thereof a potential risk of discreditation by the public. This is especially a challenge in the digital arts sectors, which unlike heritage culture doesn’t have a tradition of century-long longevity and preservation.

As much as the topic is essential to the development of the ecosystem, it is, as we can expect, not straightforward but multilayered and transcends many areas of activities.

Moreover, merely considering the economic development strategy - which is at the heart of the DI/S project - the organisations can use their social and environmental responsibility to improve their brand identity, as it will be of major importance for their partners (B2B, third party funders), clients and users (general audience). Every production, service and cultural event will soon be discredited by the public if it does not take sustainability into consideration.

The DI/S partners have made it one of their priorities to ,taking into account the economic, human and environmental aspects  in the implementation of the project, caring about the ethical, inclusive and sustainable elements of its outcomes.

A dedicated DI/S Corporate Responsibility work group has delivered  ethical, inclusive and sustainable project outcomes:

  • Experts on these topics have been invited to take part to workshops and conferences, so to raise awareness among all internal and external stakeholders;
  • Specific guidelines have been published to allow cultural organisations to develop new ethical, inclusive and sustainable business models.
